– Goldman, CanWest Global May Buy Alliance Atlantis, Person Familiar Says – Oil Trades Near 18-Month Low After Falling on Mild U.S. Weather, Supplies – Apple Inc. Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs is targeting the company’s new
iPhone at users of Research In Motion Ltd.’s BlackBerry and Palm Inc.’s Treo.
The iPhone released by Jobs yesterday in San Francisco combines Apple’s iPod
music and video player with a mobile phone and wireless Internet access for
e-mail, the core function of the BlackBerry and Treo. – Alcoa Inc. rose $1.38, or 4.8 percent, to $29.90 in trading after the official close of U.S. exchanges. The world’s biggest aluminum maker said fourth-quarter
profit excluding certain items was 74 cents a share. That topped the average 66
cent estimate of 16 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. – Shaw Group (SGR) is scheduled to report before the market open, while
Genentech (DNA) and Sapient (SAPE) will report after the close. Investors will
also have some economic data to digest; Treasury Balance will be out at 14:30
CET, followed by Wholesale inventories at 16:00 CET.
